Who are the Friends of the Library? What do they do?
"The purpose of the Friends of the Morristown & Morris Township Library shall be to further public interest in and greater use of the Library and its facilities. This shall be done by raising funds for Library needs not included in the budget and sponsoring special programs." [From the Friends' Constitution]
The Friends are the hands-on volunteers. They get dusty hauling and sorting used books for the sales that bring the Library more than $30,000 a year, provide a kind of book recycling service for the community, and provide shoppers with inexpensive books for their personal libraries. The Friends plan lectures and other programs for the community. They publish the quarterly Library News. They prepare and serve an annual luncheon for Library staff and volunteers. They do their best to cover the desks during monthly staff meetings, and they stand ready to help with special events, purchases, projects or emergencies.
Anyone may join the Friends by paying the annual dues (15.00 dollars for an individual) that help support the Library.
Used Book Sales
Used book sales are a significant fundraiser for the Friends. They also provide an opportunity for individuals to find new homes for books and to build personal libraries at affordable prices. All proceeds support the Library.

Book Sale Schedule
- TUESDAYS: Every Tuesday morning 10- 11:30
Location: in the Friends Bookworm Room, lower level of the Library's Reference wing. - SATURDAYS: First and Third Saturdays 10-2
Locations: in the Bookworm Room, the Meeting Room when available and, in good weather, on the front walk. - EXCEPTIONS: There are no Saturday sales in July or August, or on holidays. Tuesday morning sales continue in summer as long as volunteers are available.
- DAILY: One book sale cart is available in the main Circulation Room whenever the Library is open. (Library Hours)
Book Donations
BRINGING US BOOKS? PLEASE OBSERVE THESE GUIDLINES:
Most of our sale books come from the homes of individuals. Donation of books are generally accepted whenever the Library is open. However, the Friends must curtail donations during the summer and whenever storage spaces are full.
Please do not donate:
- textbooks or magazines
- damaged, dirty or moldy books
- books with inderlining or highlighting
- books with missing covers or illegible spines
- condensed books
True, it is sad to discard books. It is doubly sad for the Friends to waste money trucking away books we cannot sell.
